It happened to a friend of mine while we were dinning in a five star restaurant mind you. When it happened, we didn't get angry, screamed or whatever, the waiter helped my friend to clean up, then the manager came with his card, gave it to my friend, and asked him to send the dry cleaning bill to him, and they will pay for it.
If it happens to you, look and be angry, or you will got babbkiss. If you are nice! they will take advantage of that, and they will get away with it. It happens to us, don't let it happen to you. Accidents do happens, but it doesn't mean they have to get Scot free with it.

I saw that happen on an airplane, the flight attendant spilled food all over this poor girl. They helped her wipe it off, but that was it. She should have complained, would have gotten a free ticket probably.
If it happened to me in a nice restaurant and it was really bad as you describe I don't think I would have to do anything. The manager would be there in an instant to make things right. At least I would hope so!

Terrible situation. Ruins not only what you are wearing but the entire dining experience for your guests.
How are you compensated for this awful mistake?
Dou you have to go to a hospital for your eyes?
The restaurant must take care of all medical bills, make the suit like new or replace it.
If you wanted to go back there and eat, I would expect to be compensated for the cost of at least ten meals including wine, after dinner drinks etc.
If I were at a very fine restaurant I would expect to spend, with tip etc. $150 to $200 per person.
At a normal restaurant $75 to $100 per person.

sticky situation! lets see...quit thinking hard. find the toilet, clean up and grab a chair, have a little chat with the manager! demand, a brand new gucci suite (show the receipt if you have any) and deliver the food to your home! next time don't think about coming back to the restaurant!!

I'd ask the hottest waitress in the place to lick it off.

You should talk to the manager and have him pay for your dry-cleaning, and have him "comp" the next meal.
